Cupping Therapy

A complementary therapy to acupuncture and massage therapy, cupping involves creating suction on the skin to promote blood flow and healing. This treatment helps relieve tension in the muscles while improving circulation, enhancing the overall health of the entire body.

Gua Sha / Scraping Therapy

This traditional Chinese therapy involves scraping the skin to improve circulation and collagen production. Often integrated with acupuncture and massage therapy, it offers relief from chronic pain, reduces inflammation, and boosts immunity.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

This treatment focuses on facial health, combining traditional and facial acupuncture to promote blood flow, youthfulness, and skin elasticity. This treatment stimulates collagen production, reduces wrinkles, and enhances skin tone. An excellent alternative to more invasive Western medicine techniques for facial rejuvenation.

Moxibustion

This Traditional Chinese Medicine practice incorporates dried plants, burning them near the skin to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi (pronounced 'chee'). It complements traditional acupuncture services, enhancing its effects on the entire body and targeting various health concerns.

Tui Na / Acupressure

A form of massage therapy within Traditional Chinese Medicine, this method focuses on the same acupoints as acupuncture but incorporates hand pressure. Performed by a hand acupuncturist, it offers a holistic approach to relieving muscle tension and balancing the body's energy.

TMJ Dysfunction

This acupuncture treatment targets pain resulting from TMJ (a disorder affecting the temporomandibular joints). It offers a non-invasive alternative to Western medicine, using precise needle placement to relieve jaw pain, improve joint function, and reduce inflammation.

Dry Needling

This holistic approach, similar to acupuncture, involves inserting needles into trigger points. It's effective for treating muscle pain and stiffness, enhancing the overall acupuncture experience and promoting healing in the entire body.

Insomnia Relief

Acupuncture can be used to treat sleep disorders, such as insomnia. By targeting specific acupoints, this treatment calms the mind, balances the body's energy, and promotes restful sleep, offering a natural solution for insomnia and other stress-related sleep disorders.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture, born from Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a treatment that involves the strategic placement of thin needles into different points of the body. At Van Sports Physio, our acupuncture services are designed to engage the body's natural healing mechanisms to treat various health concerns. With acupuncture, we can stimulate the brain, allowing it to release natural painkillers and neurotransmitters to ease muscle tension and promote healing. This can address various ailments, from sports injuries to skin conditions to chronic pain.

Now, we understand that the thought of needles may be daunting; however, our registered acupuncturists are skilled at creating a comfortable, pain-free experience. By choosing experienced professionals for your acupuncture treatments, you choose effective pain relief and a positive healing journey. Highly trained and deeply committed, our experts offer safe and effective treatments that eliminate the risk of severe side effects. Suitable for all ages, visit our acupuncture clinic to address your unique health conditions.

What to Expect from Acupuncture Treatments?

In many ways, acupuncture is similar to a healthy dose of exercise. This age-old practice encourages the stimulation of regulatory mechanisms that are already present within the body, improving the body's ability to function properly.

When successful, one of two things usually occurs within the body. Either the symptoms caused by abnormal nervous system function (i.e., chronic pain, lack of mobility, etc.) are reduced to a tolerable level, or the issue is resolved permanently. If the issue is resolved completely, it's typically because of the irregularities in the nervous system that are solved by acupuncture treatments, eradicating the source of the symptoms.

At Van Sports Physio, we understand how chronic pain, discomfort, and other symptoms affecting your health can lower your quality of life. This natural approach aims to treat health issues that could cost a fortune if addressed by Western Medicine.

Often paired with registered massage therapy, these holistic treatments can be transformative for promoting mobility, pain relief, and longevity. In an effort to be the best acupuncture clinic in Downtown Vancouver, we will do everything in our power to improve your wellness.

Neuromodulation

The Neuromodulation process achieved through Medical Acupuncture allows the analgesic treatment of the procedure to take place. By influencing the nervous system to correct itself through neurological and neurohumoral mechanisms, troubled areas of the body can be specifically treated on different levels, such as the spinal cord, brain stem, peripheral nerves, and sometimes even the brain itself. By targeting any of these levels of the nervous system, neurotransmitters (such as dopamine, amino acids, etc.) can be modified and altered to regulate the amount of pain being transmitted to the brain due to abnormal nerve activity.

Treatment

Medical Acupuncture is in many ways similar to a healthy dose of exercise, as it encourages the stimulation of regulatory mechanisms that are already present within the body in order to improve the body’s ability to properly function. When a Medical Acupuncture treatment is successful, one of two things usually occur within the body. The symptoms caused by the abnormal function of the nervous system, such as chronic pain and lack of mobility, are reduced to a tolerable level, or in other cases, the issue is permanently resolved. The latter of these two situations usually occurs because original cause of a person’s symptoms had to do with irregularities in the nervous systems that have since been resolved by successful Medical Acupuncture treatments.

Testimonials

  • I've seen Siobhan (physiotherapist) for 6 months, she's excellent! The different injuries I've had in my knee and hip have improved notoriously with the treatment. She's very clear in explaining what is happening with your body (for me education is important so you can manage your injuries properly), giving you a variety of exercises to do at home and answering all your possible questions. I feel very well-cared for and I'm super grateful for such a positive impact on my health. I'd recommend her 100%!

  • Used to see Michael for a running injury - he was fantastic and worked with me diligently to get to the root cause of the problem opposed to quick fixes I've experienced at other physio clinics. Will be visiting the VanSports physiotherapist team again this week for a separate concern. Communication is always fantastic with incredibly quick response times for all inquiries. All team members are friendly, seem down to earth, genuinely interested in helping you and create a relaxed yet professional environment. Side note, the location is great being downtown Vancouver.
